New year New budget

So me and DH have been talking about the budget and everything so we are going to sit down and rethink our budget and figure out were all our money is going!

Wish me luck! I didn't think making a budget would be so darn hard!

    Hey, making it is a process. Just remember that it is a VERY USEFUL TOOL, but only if you use it. For me it was finally learning that a budget was a living, changing thing - not something set in stone. It was helpful getting started for us to think of it as a Spending Plan. Sitting down before doling out any of the pay and making a prioritized list of where the money was going. Being in charge of the money instead of the money being in charge of us!

    You'll forget something sure as shooting when you start out - don't give up in frustration. Add it to the list, make the adjustment. It can be a one step forward, two steps back thing for awhile. Just keep going with it and making adjustments until you finally reach a solution that works for your family.

    The thing I found most beneficial in our budget was to plan for a way to 'spend' all the money. Don't have $500 left over as miscellaneous. Plan for where that money will go. I find if all our money is accounted for, I'm far less likely to spend it on something frivolous.

    LuxLiving made a super point...do be prepared to make adjustments. Have fun and enjoy doing this together!
